A little about me and my family:
I am a mum of two, Lizzie (born 1992) and George (born 1993). Having two children 19 months apart seemed a good idea at the time but I will be honest and say that some of the early years were just a blur of sleepless nights, dirty nappies and desperately trying to meet deadlines for childminders whilst doing my best as a half time GP not to fall behind in surgery or forget to sign the emergency prescriptions. Having to say sorry to patients for running late or to teachers for collecting the children late from school was a way of life until Lizzie and George were old enough to use the school bus! I completed my three years of training in homeopathy in 1998 and left my first practice in 2001 to work wholly privately in Complementary Medicine for two years. I then realised that I missed the variety of GP life more than I thought I would. I found another great practice to work in and currently do one day a week as a salaried NHS GP and one day a week as a private GP, offering homeopathy and acupuncture. I also do the occasional GP locum duty and lecture in Complementary Medicine. I think I am very lucky in my medical career and love the combination of treatments I can offer.
My best piece of parenting advice:
My funniest pregnancy or parenting moment:
One memory which always sticks in my mind is when George came home from the local church aided primary school to tell me proudly that he knew what the 'F' word was. I looked at my little seven-year-old boy and my heart sank, was there nothing left of childhood innocence these days? I tried to keep my voice matter of fact and leant forward "Go on then, what is it" I think he guessed that he might be on dodgy ground here but he leaned forward too, and said, 'FART!' His sister laughed, as only older sisters can, and to this day, I am not sure whether he knew the other F word or not.
